The facility
The adapted pan European BSL4 infrastructure will face any pandemic outcome
from emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, which is a scientific
challenge that implies coordinated survey and study of level 4 pathogens.

Background
One of the great challenges of the 21st century is the capability to react
on human and animal highly pathogenic micro-organisms. Recently occurring
SARS and avian flu epidemics have demonstrated the reality of infectious
threat and worldwide vulnerability in front of emerging and re-emerging
infectious disease. In this context, an European coordinated strategy is
needed to ensure to each European citizen access to diagnosis and treatment.
This implies construction and implementation of a new European BSL-4
research infrastructure.
What's new?
Impact foreseen?
Main objectives of this project consist in increasing and coordinating
(1) research activities from basic to applied research,
(2) diagnosis activities development in conjunction with health industrials
partners,
(3) implementation and organisation of mutualised and shared biological r
esources centres, linked with BBMRI-ESFRI project and last
(4) construction of training facilities to develop, share and implement
common procedures that guarantee safe and secure technicians and
scientists work as well as environmental protection.
